It is very striking and impressive. There are 5 or 6 horizontal incisions along the upper arms of the figure. He has the relatively short hind legs and long body of the lion. On the other hand the way that his limbs are jointed at the elbow and the knee is human. His genitals are also prominent and clearly important. It doesn't look very human to me, rather a regular lion body in an unnatural position.<br /><br />Another possibility is that the author simply repurposed a former human statuette to make it look like an animal, sort of like a palimpsest.
