But, yes, since Leon lowered the bar - to get at deeper ancestry - my number of people matching segments has almost doubled.

When I have time, I will go into detailed view and see if any of these are matching >= 7cM and >= 1,000 SNP's, which is considered 5th cousin range by 23AndMe. But remember that if 2 people both have a trace of Jewish ancestry, then they are likely to match on a number of small segments - whether they are related within 10 generations or not.pconroyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10312469574812832771noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7785493.post-16326356402408339882010-11-08T16:41:21.269+02:002010-11-08T16:41:21.269+02:00I am "related" to 7 of the 12 GU members...I am "related" to 7 of the 12 GU members ON THE HIR SEARCH DEFAULT THRESHOLD SETTINGS which are not very high. I believe only one of them, Joe Pickrell, would pass the RF threshold settings (seem to be >7cM and >1000 SNPs in my experience) and I believe he is one of my unidentified RF matches. There was also an issue which is a bit over my head about Leon changing the cM threshold from 5cM to 4cM recently which resulted in the newer uploads like these guys having a lot more matches than the rest of us.Helenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02375851395909592230noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7785493.post-39640739568144574372010-11-03T16:56:32.349+02:002010-11-03T16:56:32.349+02:00Just took a look at Leon Kull’s HIR Search site – ...Just took a look at Leon Kull’s HIR Search site – where he has uploaded the 12 Genomes Unzipped members, and strange as it sounds, I’m “related” to 5 of the 12:
1. Jeff Barrett – 4 segments – 3rd closest relative – after my parents 1st and 2nd
2. Joe Pickrell – 3 segments – 8th closest relative
3. Don Conrad – 2 segments – 20th closest relative
4. Ilana Fisher – 2 segments
5. Daniel MacArthur – 1 segment
Who knew…

BTW, when I check my Parents (Michael Conroy and Margaret Conroy), I see that additionally, my Dad is related to:
Kate Morley – 2 segments
Jan Aerts – 2 segments

And my Mom is related to:
Jan Aerts – 2 segments

Actually each of my parents are related to:
1. Joe Pickrell
2. Jan Aerts
3. Daniel MacArthur
4. Ilana Fisher

It's a small world out there - or else there is some convergence between all these people and my family??

By the way, if you search under "Joe Pickrell", he is related on 2 segments to Dan Vorhaus and some of the others too. Same for the others, they are all interrelated!pconroyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10312469574812832771noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7785493.post-39593739190496523192010-11-03T16:14:58.960+02:002010-11-03T16:14:58.960+02:00Ponto,

Semitic is really linguistic, and frankly something best left in the Bible with Shem and the rest of the Biblical cast of characters. Arab is really meaningless as Sudanese are Arabs, Moroccans are Arabs, some Iranians are Arabs..it is too removed from the Arabian Peninsula.

I am Maltese, 100%, no foreign ingress for at least 600 years, and I am 13.6% SW Asian. I am DOD043. As the Indo-European people advanced throughout Europe and admixed and assimilated the natives, the SW Asian component would decrease in amount, which is what we see in the SW Asian component distributions: the SW Asian component decreases as a function of the distance from Anatolia among the IE-speaking populations of Europe and drops to 0% in farthest (to Anatolia) IE-speakers and in non-IE French Basques.Onur Dincerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05041378853428912894noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7785493.post-66286281038964168892010-11-01T22:55:21.214+02:002010-11-01T22:55:21.214+02:00Italians (including Sicilians) can be distinguishe...Italians (including Sicilians) can be distinguished easily from Jews, despite the high SW Asian values.

Personally, I don't want to call the SW Asian component anything else at present.
